Renowned Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Deyemi Okanlawon, has candidly addressed the absence of significant national awards in his accolades despite his substantial contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
In a recent interview with Hip TV, Okanlawon revealed that, despite not receiving recognition from Nigeria’s award organizers, he remains motivated by self-appreciation. While expressing his openness to accepting awards if offered, he emphasized that such accolades would not define his identity.

Okanlawon asserted that, if he were inclined to be disheartened by the lack of awards, he would have questioned his standing in the industry. However, he stressed his ability to confidently acknowledge his achievements when he looks into the mirror. The seasoned actor highlighted his preference for self-validation over external awards, emphasizing that his presence should validate an award, not the other way around.
He stated, “Validation shouldn’t define you. If anything, my presence should validate an award, not the other way round.” Okanlawon also shared his learning experience of embracing compliments and recognizing the value in acknowledging his own accomplishments, regardless of external recognition.
