Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as Do2dtun, a well-known Nigerian On Air Personality, has shared his perspective on the recent altercation between Afrobeats singer Omah Lay and a fan during a concert.
In the incident, Omah Lay invited a female fan on stage during his UK concert, resulting in a provocative performance that left her boyfriend visibly upset. Drawing parallels to a similar situation between American actress Keke Palmer and singer Usher, Do2dtun pointed out that public reactions often vary based on individuals’ popularity and status.
Do2dtun highlighted that societal judgment tends to be selective, noting that in Keke Palmer’s case, her boyfriend was labeled as insecure for expressing displeasure, whereas in Omah Lay’s incident, blame was shifted to the woman. He emphasized the tendency for people to criticize actions based on personal preferences, especially when individuals involved are not universally loved or well-known.
The OAP underscored the double standards in public reactions, stating, “Once it’s a person you mostly love, it’s okay, but once it’s someone you all hardly know, you will call them a whore, low life, etc.”
