EFCC Warns Skit Makers Against Misuse of Operational Identities in Social Media Videos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a stern warning to skit makers and social media influencers against the unauthorized and irresponsible use of the Commission’s operational identities.
This announcement follows the circulation of a video titled “EFCC and Army Wahala,” which has gained traction on social media platforms.
In a statement released on Wednesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale condemned the video, calling it a caricature that misrepresents the operational conduct of the Commission. Oyewale described the portrayal of EFCC operatives in the video as bullies unleashing terror on “suspects” as both embarrassing and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the EFCC’s image.
“Operatives of the EFCC are not bullies. They are trained as refined modern law enforcement officers rich in decency, civility, and respect for members of the public, including suspects of economic and financial crimes,” Oyewale stated.
He further warned that skit makers must desist from using the EFCC’s identities without authorization, emphasizing that the Commission will take action against anyone found misusing its operational identities.
