A recent viral video featuring a woman, Mrs. Favour Igiebor, tearing her husband’s Standard Passport at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos has sparked widespread speculation among social media users. The incident, which was widely shared and discussed online, has led many to question the authenticity of the scene, with some suspecting it may be a publicity stunt by the couple.
The video shows Mrs. Igiebor tearing the passport and leaving the torn pieces scattered on the floor at the airport. Confronted by an official, she defiantly responded, “I tore it. Is it yours?” She was later seen walking away with her children, while her husband stood by with a baby in a stroller. The footage quickly gained traction, leading to intense public interest and numerous reactions.
In the aftermath of the video’s release, both Mrs. Igiebor and her husband have posted separate videos addressing the incident, but their explanations have only fueled further confusion. Mrs. Igiebor defended her actions and criticized bloggers for jumping to conclusions. “I’m not a mad woman who would just come and act like that,” she asserted. “I have my reasons. I’ve gone through so many things. So many of you are just commenting on the video; friends and people who I haven’t spoken with for years are now calling me. I am not like that.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Igiebor’s response seemed to focus more on promoting their social media page rather than clarifying the incident. He claimed that his wife had gained unauthorized access to his social media account and posted a video earlier in the day. “My wife posted something; I know she has gone far because she is very smart. She has gone far to get the password of this page,” he said. Mr. Igiebor urged viewers to watch the complete video for a fuller understanding and hinted that the issue was being handled within the family.
Social media users have speculated that the couple might be skit makers attempting to generate buzz for their online content. Comments on various platforms suggest that the incident could be a strategic move to attract followers and engagement. User @princeencore remarked, “I believe that passport is an old passport; they have done the renewal. These are just content. Content is the new oil. They are mining.” Another user, @UgoOnyinye, questioned the legitimacy of the incident, suggesting it was a “clout-chasing, click-baiting venture.”
Adding to the skepticism, @IamOge_Fay observed that the couple’s luggage and apparent relocation from abroad hinted at a possible content creation strategy. “This is a case of relocation from abroad. They want to start their own family content with gbasgbos 😂.”
In response to the public outcry and allegations, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a formal investigation into the incident. The NIS confirmed that Mrs. Igiebor had been identified and invited for questioning. “If the allegations are substantiated, her actions would have constituted a breach of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), with corresponding penalties outlined under Section 10(h) of the same Act,” the NIS stated.
As the investigation unfolds, the true nature of the incident remains uncertain, and the public awaits further clarification from both the couple and the authorities.
