Lagos, Nigeria – November 5, 2024 – Popular Nigerian comedian and social activist, Mr. Macaroni, has taken to social media to publicly call out Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, over the worsening condition of roads across the state.
In a post shared on his official Twitter account, Mr. Macaroni expressed frustration over the state of infrastructure in Lagos, which he claimed has become increasingly hazardous for commuters. The comedian, known for his advocacy on various social issues, highlighted several roads that have deteriorated to the point of causing serious traffic gridlocks, accidents, and major inconveniences to the public.
“I cannot keep quiet anymore! The roads in Lagos have become a death trap. What happened to the promises made during the election campaign? This administration has failed to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens,” Mr. Macaroni wrote.
He went on to describe the roads as “a disgrace,” referring to the “shocking neglect” of major routes like the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway and the Ikorodu Road. In his statement, he called on the governor to take immediate action, urging the administration to either repair the roads or make adequate plans for their rehabilitation.
Mr. Macaroni’s criticism comes amidst growing public discontent over the state of Lagos’ roads. Residents have complained of unbearable traffic jams, deteriorating infrastructure, and the safety risks posed by deep potholes and uncompleted roadworks.
In response, the Governor’s office acknowledged the concerns, but insisted that road rehabilitation is already underway. A spokesperson for Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that several major road projects, including the expansion of the Third Mainland Bridge and a new phase of road repairs in Ikeja and Surulere, are currently in progress and would be completed within the coming months.
“We understand the frustration of Lagosians, and our administration is committed to improving road conditions across the state. We urge everyone to be patient as we work to deliver lasting solutions,” the spokesperson said.
However, many Lagosians have expressed skepticism over the speed of progress, with some questioning whether the state government is doing enough to address the growing infrastructure crisis.
Mr. Macaroni’s call for action has reignited the debate on governance, accountability, and the quality of life for Lagos residents, prompting both praise and criticism from various quarters.
As the conversation continues, it remains to be seen how the Sanwo-Olu administration will respond to the mounting pressure for tangible improvements on the roads.
