Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee, Davido, has revealed that his hit track “With You” featuring Omah Lay almost did not make the final tracklist of his 5IVE album.
Speaking in an interview with OkayAfrica, reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday, the singer disclosed that the song failed to impress during internal listening sessions and was not considered a standout by his team.
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” Davido said.
He admitted that the song’s later success has become emotional for him, as he often reflects on how close it came to being excluded from the project.
“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” he added.
The track has since gone on to become one of Davido’s biggest recent releases, earning him another Grammy nomination, topping music charts and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
Davido also recounted how he learned about the Grammy nomination, describing the moment as unexpected.
According to him, he received the call while in Dubai, just days before his birthday, while checking out a car.
“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, the singer said his focus is now on touring and new music releases.

He confirmed that he will perform at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup. Davido is scheduled to take the stage on Saturday, April 11 and Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.
